Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800: the new record-breaking electric car is an 1800-hp "monster"

Ford Performance presents the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800, the upgraded version of the electric race car with the goal of breaking the world record for electric vehicles in the quarter mile.

With its 1800 rear-wheel horsepower, this new SJC1800 version is poised to surpass the already impressive 8.128-second record held by the Cobra Jet 1400. MLe Racecar co-founder, Pat McCue, will be behind the wheel, with a lighter Liberty transmission and improved suspension geometry, supported by bigger tyres than ever before. The power of this electric car is absolutely staggering.

Current world record
The current record is held by the Cobra Jet 1400, which ran the quarter mile in 8.128 seconds at 276.76 km/h in June 2021 with Bob Tasca III at the wheel. The Super Cobra Jet 1800 was created with the aim of breaking this record easily.

More powerful and efficient engines
Compared with the Cobra Jet 1400, the Super Cobra Jet 1800 is equipped with four PN-250-DZR inverters and two pairs of DS-250-115 dual-battery motors to produce 1,800 hp at the rear wheels. A Liberty transmission and a lighter battery system improve the car's efficiency, making it even faster.

Revisions and updates
Ford Performance worked hard to improve the car, making revisions and upgrades to the chassis, powertrain, and control systems. This is so that the car can compete in the electric vehicle category and beat the record set by Cobra Jet 1400.

Weight, the most significant enemy
Weight is probably the most significant enemy in this competition. To beat the world record, the car will have to be lighter, and for this reason, careful work has been done on the new battery system and the Liberty transmission.
