The World Car of the Year (abbreviated as WCOTY), also called World Car Awards, is an automotive award given annually by a jury of 82 international automotive journalists from 24 countries.
Cars nominated for the award must have been sold in at least five countries and on at least two continents before January 1 of the year in which the award is given. The competition was first held in 2003 and officially launched in January 2004.
Since 2006, awards have also been given to the best performing, most environmentally friendly car at design.
The last car to be awarded in 2022 was the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
